6 day killarney canoe trip

Description
I just recently got back from a 6 day canoe trip through Killarney. You could spend weeks touring killarney and not see it all, but I feel the route we did was enough to capture the essence of the park.

day 1 7.5km
We put in on lake carlyle then paddled through to site #68 on johnnie lake small but really nice site beautiful view of silver peak.

day 2 11km 2portages 300m,30(trolly)

we paddled through johnnie, Bell, three mile and ended up in birch lake. We stayed on site 116 which was its own island. Amazing sunset! There is a bog right behind it soo might not be the best choice in summer

day 3 6km 1 portage 675m

we paddled from birch to david lake today. We stayed on this lake for days 3&4. There are some awesome sites here site 101 seems to be fought over quite a bit. We stayed at 97 which was great, we had our own bay and yet another beautiful senset.

day 4 6km paddle 11km hike

Today is the climax of the trip. We paddled 3km from our site to the trail which led from David lake to silver peak which is the highest peak in the La Cloche range (ontario mountains). The hike is awesome you traverse one ridge then drop into a valley and then summit silver peak. The peak is a huge dome of quartzite, really really cool.
* my recommendation for today is get an early start. sorry Sarah.

Day 5 7-9km 5 portages 250m, 150m, 745m, 50m, 100m

The portages on day 5 are a little straining but the trails are very well maintained. You paddle from David lake and end up back in Johnnie Lake.

Day 6 9km

Last day, exit day. Today you retrace day 1 and get back to Carlyle.

We did the trip in late september. The weather was AMAZING and we even had tail winds the entire time.

Overall the trip was pretty relaxed only on day 4 do you have to really work.

For those wanting to do bigger paddles I recommend exiting the park into Bay Fin. It is a long narrow bay with two massive ridges on either side.
cheers!
