Want real authentic German food with locally brewed alt beer - their own brewed beer? Want to know where the locals go for an evening out for food and alt? A must try is the Schumacher Alt located off the tourist track on a non-descrip street - about 10 minutes from the main train station. This place is quite big with a large restaurant and even bigger back patio (patio is preferred – but usually full). This restaurant has lots of character – actually pub-like and serves honest German food including pork, sausages, goulash, potatoes, etc. And by the way, the beer just keeps on coming until you say no more. And service is pretty darn good too.
