Chiang Mai, Thailand is an extraordinary city. It has yet to be exploited by tourists the way the rest of Thailand has.

If you find yourself in Chiang Mai, may I suggest stopping in to a Wawee Coffee - it is the Thai version of Starbucks but much more authentic and so much better. All of their coffee is grown and hand picked in northern Thailand and you can taste it in the beans. My favourite Wawee was found on Thanon Nimanhammen, Soi Hok - translation: Nimanhammen Street, Lane 6. This Wawee will not disappoint. I would recommend trying the Cafe Yen (cold coffee) which is a shot of espresso and condensed milk. Just incredible!
