Following the romantic road is definitely worthwhile. If you find yourself in the south and have the time and want to stretch your legs, head west to see the town of Lindau. It is separated from the mainland by a causeway into the Bodensee (a lake), and is a little island with a harbour, great hotels and places to eat. Head to the harbourfront. From here you can look across the lake to Austria to the southeast and Switzerland to the southwest. We ate Kasespatzle, a specialty of the region, a type of pasta mixed with cheese and served with caramelized onions. Delicious!
