Description
Of all the places in the world I have traveled, this was one of my most memorable tours.
If enjoying a glass of wine, while cruising down the Rhine River, in Germany, viewing vineyards, castles, and ruins along the river’s banks towards Heidelberg sounds appealing to you, then you will not be disappointed. After the cruise, you will board a bus for a short trip to Heidelberg, one of the nicest villages in Germany.
The Americans during World War II liked the town so much that they decided not to bomb it. Heidelberg is a university town rich in history, with ginger bread houses architecture.
Visions of Hansel & Gretel come to mind, when you visit the town. As part of the tour you will visit a castle / fort ruins and enjoy a meal. There are a number of little shops selling cuckoo clocks and beer steins.
Bring a light jacket and a camera with a good telephoto lens. If you still enjoy shooting film, bring at least 5 roles. Film can be purchased in Heidelberg but with a much higher markup.
The tour operator is located in Frankfurt. This trip was in 1997 so sorry, I do not remember the tour operator's name or price of the tour. Your Frankfurt hotel's concierge will be able to assist you.
You may even want to spend a night or two in Heidelberg.
Enjoy! Cheers! -Richard
