The things that I think are the highlights of Paris are experiencing aside from the obvious (Eiffel Tower, Louvre etc.) are the Catacombs, having a sunset picnic on the Pont des Arts, feeling the energy in the Arenes de Lutece (the Roman Arena- 2nd largest in Gaul), spending a couple hours during the weekend enjoying the street entertainment on Pont St Louis (bridge that connects Ile de la Cite and Il St Louis- Notre Dame) and most importantly- having a falafel with grilled eggplant in the Marais.....other then that here are some ideas.
One Day Adventure.
Start the day at the Sacre Coeur. (Romano-Byzantine Church. Construction started in 1876 after France’s defeat in the Franco-Prussian war of 1870)
To get to Sacre Coeur. - Take line 2 to (M)Anvers and get out and walk up rue de Steinkerque towards the beautiful white masterpiece. Get a crepe with burre et sucre once you get to Place St Pierre. You can then choose to make your way to the Sacre Coeur walking up the steep incline or you can jump on the Funiculaire and save your breath. The funiculaire is the price of a metro ticket and it takes you up in a nice little glass cabin with a view.
The views from Sacre Coeur are amazing. If it is a clear day I encourage you two to climb up to the Dome..139 steps and you will have a spectacular view reaching out about 30 miles.
Once you have explored Sacre Coeur and taken all the scenic photos you can handle walk towards the backside down rue de Guibert and follow it to the left where you will pass many street artists that will plead with you to create your portrait. This rue will lead you to Place du Tertre where you will find all kinds of cute cafes and a large number of artists displaying their finest works.
If you follow Rue Lepic it will take you on a nice walk that will end at Blvd de Clichy (metro Blanche) and the Moulin Rouge. The ladies must try to wear a skirt this day and stand on the grilled metro cover and have her photo taken when the metro passes creating a strong gust of wind that will make her feel like Marilyn Monroe while the Moulin Rouge is the focal point in the background of the photo.
The Museum of Eroctism is right here at 72 boulevard de Clichy. Stop in if you can....they have some crazy stuff there. They show some of the 1st erotic films ever made...think silent film of young house servant delivering tea to her master and then receiving a playful slap to the bum in return. They also have images of the first brothels in Paris as well as some of the first ever sex toys.

From here you can either take some time to explore the Cimetiere de Montmartre by following Blvd de Clichy west and heading North to the entrance gate on Rue Caulaincourt or you can head directly down to the Arche de Triomphe by getting onto the metro (ligne 2) at Blanche.
If you do decide to visit Serge Gainsbourg, Jean-Paul Satre, and Brancusi at the cimetiere- once you are finished you can follow Rue Caulaincourt back to Blvd de Clichy and get on the metro at Place de Clichy and allow ligne 2 to deliver you to the Arche de Triomphe at the Charles de Gaulle Etoile station.
Arche de Triomphe (Construction started 201 yrs ago in 1806 by Napoleon). Every night at 6:30 veterans light a flame for the unknown solider.....if it is a nice clear day it is worth climbing to the top of the arch and checking out the view. There are 12 streets that start at the arch and the Champs Elysee is the longest vista in Paris. Arche de Triomphe stands as one on the arches making up the East-West axis through Paris. From the top of the arch you can see La Defence to the West and The Louve’s Arc du Carrousel to the East.
After you have spent some time checking out the elite Champs Elysee get onto line 6 at Charles de Gaulle Etoile and take it to (M)Trocadero. Once you exit the metro you will be at the Palais De Chaillot…the BEST viewing spot of the Eiffel Tower. Hang out, take photos, eat another crepe... There are usually lots of people roller blading and doing entertaining things- like bike tricks, juggling etc.
Afterward walk down the steps to Place de Varsovie and then cross the Pont d’lena to the Eiffel Tower.
From here you can head over to the Pont de L’Alma and cruise along the Seine in a Bateaux-Mouches (I recommend this cruise as it will allow you an over view of the architecture along the seine...so beautiful!!!!) or you can just hang out and wander around the Parc du Champs de Mars and head over to the Ecole Militaire and then to Napoleon’s resting place at the Hotel Des Invalides (big golden dome).
Again. You MUST go to the Catacombs while you are in Paris.
The entrance to the Catacombs is at (M)Denfert-Rochereau in the 14thy arrondissement.
Marais- While in the Marais you should really eat a falafel with eggplant (one of the places on Rue Des Rosiers), play a board game at the cafe L’Apartement (18 rue des Coutures Saint-Gervais), walk through the Place des Vosges (Paris’ first open air square- it is a great place to lay in the grass and hang out) and check out the Picasso Musuem (5 Rue de Thorigny in the Hotel Sale which was built in 1656).
There you have it. Have a great time!
